The Penny a Pound Program

Working with participating coffee importers and brokers, the Coffeelands Foundation has developed a simple and effective program for coffee roasters that can have a profound impact on the lives of coffee growers and their communities.

Coffee buyers and roasters will be able to make donations of one penny per pound on each pound of green coffee purchased. The resulting invoice will reflect the quoted price of the green coffee. There will be a line item for the Coffeelands Foundation equivalent to one penny for each pound of coffee purchased. The donation is tax-deductible. Importers will collect the penny a pound through the payment of the invoice and pass that money on to the Coffeelands Foundation on a quarterly basis.

what we do with the penny

Through the incremental donations collected from participating coffee roasters, the Coffeelands Foundation makes grants to qualifying non-profits. Our goal is to fund projects on a quarterly basis.

Requests for proposals will be sent to non-profit organizations that have established  programs in coffee-growing communities. These funding applications will be reviewed by Coffeelands Foundation’s Board of Directors. Grants will be awarded contingent upon a set of monitoring guidelines for grantees.

Participating roasters will receive updates on projects that can be used for marketing and consumer education purposes.
